Minnesota Resources for Family Historians: Ironworld Research Center

Thorough researchers follow up on every lead, track down every clue, turn over every rock, regardless of where the records reside. As the internet matures, more and more 'clues' and 'rocks' appear. The Ironworld Research Center and the Range Genealogical Society offer a combined search of the Minnesota Alien Registration and District Court Naturalization index databases.

The Alien Registration questionnaires resulted from an effort in 1918 to identify those immigrants who had not yet completed naturalization proceedings. The Ironworld index cover the entire state of Minnesota. (Our research note on this topic outlines what happened.) The Minnesota Historical Society also offers an index on microfilm.

The District Court Naturalization Index was compiled by Conrad Peterzen, of the Range Society, and is also available through Ancestry.com subscriptions. On the Ironworld site, you get the index free and can order the records themselves directly. (Our research note also includes information on where the records are for the Federal Court naturalizations.)
